Ashley is our acting President and VP of Communications. As President, she provides support to the VPs to perform their duties and carry out their initiatives, and helps mediate discussions. She and the volunteers that work in the Communications Committee coordinate our social media posts and events along with managing our website. Ashley has been babywearing since her oldest was born in 2011. However, it was the birth of her second son in 2015 that made babywearing prominent feature of her daily life and brought her to our chapter of BWI. Upon joining BWI of Gainesville, Ashley quickly became a volunteer in our lending library committee, she also became a Volunteer Babywearing Educator (VBE), and then in 2016 she took on her current role as the VP of communications. Ashley is a PhD student in a research and extension laboratory at the University of Florida. In that position she participates in public education via workshops, lectures, educational documents, blogs, and social media. This experience has been very influential to her contribution to our chapter.
Kim Kruse is VP of Education and an active Volunteer Babywearing Educator (VBE). She facilitates the training process for volunteers who want to become VBEs, leads meetings and workshops, and conducts outreach events in the community. She started babywearing when her older son was born in October 2012 and has been involved with BWI of Gainesville since May 2013. To her, babywearing provides both security and freedom. It allows parents to carry on with their active lives and go places they could never go with a stroller. And it’s an amazing bonding experience that’s full of warm fuzzies. She has professional experience in teaching, communications, and fundraising, all of which help her be an effective leader for BWI of Gainesville. She has been an active Gainesville resident for 20 years and looks forward to helping educate local caregivers so that they fall in love with babywearing.
Erin is our VP of Administration. Along with some wonderful volunteers, Erin manages the check-in process at our main meetings, and also tends to member tracking, attendance, and reporting. Erin has been babywearing since 2012, and was excited to start volunteering with BWI Gainesville after the birth of her second son in 2015. Erin enjoys meeting new families at meetings and working with caregivers in her role as VBE as they learn about babywearing. Erin has a master’s degree in art education from the University of Central Florida, and teaches art and technology at Micanopy Area Cooperative School.
Anne is our VP of Lending Library Administration, and chair of the Lending Library Committee. The committee handles library checkouts and returns, carrier maintenance, and oversees carrier acquisition and retirement. Anne has been babywearing since July 2014, shortly after the birth of her only child, has been a VBE since December 2015, and joined the BWI Gainesville Board of Directors in February 2016. Anne loves spreading babywearing throughout our community and expanding our library to help meet the needs of our growing membership. Anne has a JD from Stetson University and a BS in Biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is a practicing attorney in the Gainesville area.
Kathleen is our VP of Membership and Outreach. She and our Membership and Outreach Committee work to provide valuable benefits to current members and to recruit new members. Our chapter’s outreach activities aim to fulfill BWI’s mission of making babywearing a universally accepted practice. Kathleen organizes and attends community outreach events, coordinates efforts to reach new demographics of caregivers, and helps to provide access to babywearing to disadvantaged groups in our community. Kathleen has been babywearing since spring of 2015. She joined BWI Gainesville in summer of 2015 and quickly developed a passion for helping others learn about babywearing. She became a Volunteer Babywearing Educator in spring of 2016 and joined the Board of Directors shortly thereafter. Kathleen has a bachelor’s degree in Family, Youth, and Community Sciences with a focus in Non-Profit Management from the University of Florida. She received a certificate in Project Management through the Stanford Center for Professional Development. Kathleen works as the Executive Assistant to the CEO at LifeSouth Community Blood Centers.
Carolynn is our VP of Fundraising and Donations. She and the volunteers that work in the Fundraising Committee create family-friendly fundraising events at local establishments and fundraising events to support chapter goals, solicit donations or discounts for the community, and obtain in kind donations. Several recent accomplishments have included fundraising to fund some of our new specialty wraps and carriers, our new outreach libraries for local in-need communities, and secure enough carriers for our weekday meeting’s lending library. Carolynn has been babywearing since 2014 and is already wearing her newest child, born in October 2016. Babywearing has been a major part of her family’s life. She found BWI in 2014 when she wanted to wear something other than a ‘stretchy wrap’ and her ‘hot Ergo’ in June. From that point on she’s been an active member of the babywearing community. She became a Volunteer Babywearing Educator (VBE) and took on the role of overseeing Membership and Fundraising/Donation. Carolynn is now focused solely on Fundraising and Donations while also serving as an Advanced Babywearing Educator (ABE). Carolynn is a PhD student and full time employee at the University of Florida where she focuses on the protection of youth and minors. This connection provides her the opportunity to connect with many families and share information about our babywearing community.
