Saturday, August 20, 10am

Each month BWI of Gainesville, FL offers a public meeting to educate, support, and spread the love to all current and future babywearers in the community. August’s meeting is scheduled for this Saturday, August 20, at 10AM at LifeSouth Community Blood Center, located at 4039 W. Newberry Rd in Gainesville.

This meeting is FREE and open to the public. However, we would like to recommend joining, renewing, or upgrading membership during this year’s membership drive! From 8/1 to 9/30, when we meet a goal we will have a Prize Drawing for members AND add a NEW Lending Library carrier!!!

Benefits of membership include lending library access, member only discounts, and we are currently running a FREE Lending Library photo shoot series (with opportunities for discounted personal sessions) with volunteer and photographer, Leslie Chase! These sessions are taking place every other weekend. Stay tuned for more information, or inquire at the meeting!

What happens at a meeting?

Babywearing Educators are available to assist parents and caregivers in learning how to safely and comfortably wear their children in a variety of carrier types. Bring your own personal carriers for assistance with proper fit and comfort. Our Babywearing Educators can also help you choose a new style of carrier to try from our Lending Library.

The Lending Library is available at each meeting for parents and caregivers to see, try on, and even to take home and practice with until the next meeting. Carriers are separated into stations based on carrier-type: ring slings, meh dais, woven wraps, and soft structured carriers. Checking out a carrier from the Lending Library is free to all BWI of Gainesville members. Not a member? Not a problem. You can still borrow carriers for a $10 fee plus a returnable deposit. Borrowed carriers are due back no later than the first 15 minutes of the next month’s meeting. While many of our shorty wraps will be reserved for the third Love My Shorty workshop held later this month, they will be available at the main meeting to play with.

In addition to the Lending Library, babywearing enthusiasts from the community often bring carriers from their own personal stashes. There are so many different types and brands of carriers, we all learn about new offerings while at meetings. Textile enthusiasts – this is the place for you!

We have several ongoing fundraisers that will be present at the August meeting:

  • BWI of Gainesville car magnets ($5) will be available for purchase.
  • Remember to bring your Terracycle packages as a donation to the chapter.
